6 Reasons Why Most Lash Artist Fail

Advice from a 6-figure Lash Artist

Are you a fellow lash artist looking for ways to improve your lash game? You know you could be a little faster, maybe have some better designs, and your retention could definitely be longer.

I've been in the lash game for over 12 years, and I've built a successful six-figure career in lash extensions. Now, I'm excited to share my insights with you through my company, Charm Lash Academy. I've seen many talented individuals struggle in this industry, and I believe that addressing these six common issues can make a world of difference in your journey to success.

1. Not Enough Initial Practice.

Lash extensions are a skill-based art form, and like any craft, practice is the key to improvement. Many new lash artists underestimate the importance of honing their skills through consistent practice. Don't rush into offering services to clients until you've mastered the basics.

Practice perfect application of the extension to the natural lash. Speed will come later, but be obsessive over each individual lash. A few flawless lashes beats lots of sloppy extensions every time.

Invest time in practicing on family, friends, or willing volunteers to build your confidence and technique. Aim for 2-3 full sets a week. Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither is your Lash Empire.

2. Bulky Tweezers.

The right tools are essential for success in the lash industry. One common mistake I've seen is lash artists using bulky or inappropriate tweezers. These will only get in your way when trying to

isolate or hinder your view when applying. Your tweezers should be lightweight, precise, and easy to maneuver.

Invest in quality tools that feel comfortable in your hand and enable you to work with precision. Lashes are fine and delicate, your tweezers should be too!

3. Slow-Drying Glue.

This was the thing that killed my vibe when I first started lashing - but I had no idea it was the culprit. Lashes were sticking together, separation was a nightmare, and glue was everywhere.

In the world of lash extensions, time is money. Slow-drying glue can make your appointments drag on, leading to client frustration and decreased efficiency. Make sure you're using a reliable and high-grade adhesive that offers a perfect balance between drying time and retention.

4. No Mentor.

A mentor can be your secret weapon in this industry. Many lash artists try to navigate the complexities of the lash world on their own, but having an experienced mentor can significantly expedite your progress, saving you time and your sanity.

They can provide guidance to streamline your sessions, design tips, and solutions to common challenges you might face. If you're serious about your lash career, seek out a mentor who can show you the ropes.

5. Taking Too Long to Lash.

Efficiency is key in the lash industry. Clients appreciate quick, high- quality service, and your ability to complete appointments in a reasonable timeframe can make or break your reputation. This goes 10 fold if you want to build a clientele willing to pay a premium for your lash services.

Time management is a skill that's worth developing as it can lead to more clients and more income. You may be surprised how altering just a few things in your work flow can make a big impact on your timing.

6. Bad Retention.

Retention is a crucial aspect of a successful lash business. If your extensions are falling out too quickly, clients won't be happy, and your rebooking rate along with your reputation will suffer.

Pay attention to your adhesive, application technique, design flows and aftercare advice to ensure your clients' lashes stay looking fabulous for as long as possible. *want more retention tips? Read this.
